As a school, we are reflecting upon what makes a good speller. Which attributes and skills will support stupendous spelling?

ETYMOLOGY- USING A DICTIONARY EFFECTIVELY/ STUDYING WORDS

We are fully aware that some children do not respond well to the weekly test and that even those children who religiously get 8/8 or 10/10 do not often apply the correct spellings in their written work.

As we start to encourage writing across all areas of the curriculum as well as developing the relevant skills and attributes for each area- it is crucial that our children can identify and use common patterns and rules to increase the fluency and accuracy of their writing.

If they so happen to fall in love with the richness of our many languages along the way and develop a real relationship with a dictionary, then even better.
