Governors

You may have noticed some changes and new faces to our Governing Body recently. As a school, we have always valued the strength and skills of our Governors. Undoubtedly, Chilli Road has always been supported by a team of committed and highly-skilled Governors.

Our current structure of Governance has 3 committees and a Full Governing Body:
  • Premises Committee
  • Staffing and Finance Committee
  • Teaching/Learning and Curriculum Committee

Unlike many schools, we have a higher than average proportion of Parent Governors. This demonstrates how much Chilli Road values the role of families in our school.

The following slides provide you with a little more information regarding the role of our Governors and the Governing Body as a whole. In addition- there are a few photos you may or may not recognise.

Please feel free to approach any of our Governors if you wish to know more about the Governing Body or even if you may consider joining us.

    Chair of Governors

Hello everyone. I have been chair of the governors here at Chilli Road School since October 2017, having been previously on the governing bodies at both West Jesmond Primary and Heaton Manor Schools. I am also chair of the Ouseburn Learning Trust.

I have spent quite a bit of time in school since last Autumn, getting to know staff, other governors, and also families and, most importantly, children. Now that the school has another successful Ofsted inspection behind it, and Ben has firmly got his feet under the table, we can look at the vision for the future for the school, as shared by everyone connected with it. Staff have been working on this, with the curriculum in mind, and governors have spent some time at meetings getting their heads round it – and over the Summer term a lot more work is being done with children and families, until we have a clear picture of how we want our lovely school to look in the future – and how we will achieve this – in the short, medium and longer term.

I was with other governors at Family Consultation Evenings, and it was great to meet so many families and get views on perceptions of the school but if I missed you and you would like to let me have your views, please contact me through the school office. I will also be at Chilli Jam on Saturday 7th July, so do come and say hi.
