Red Noses

15th March 2015

Another fantastic week at Chillingham Road! We ended the week with an outstanding Red Nose Day. School Council organised a great day which saw every class take part in a hunt the red nose treasure hunt and ended the day with a table top sale. They also asked everyone to come to school in something they wouldn’t normally wear to school and to wear a splash of red. It was great fun and what impresses me is that School Council regularly organise fun days but keep on coming up with ideas to keep them fresh. A really difficult task but their ideas are just so ingenious! I will let you know how much we raised once they have counted all the donations. A big thank goes to you our generous families for your contributions, as always we couldn’t do it with out you. Last week I told you about the arrival of our wonderful mud kitchen and the fun the children are having. I have had to ask Year 6 not to play in it this week! It is irresistible. Year 5 had a fantastic day at the CLC creating some amazing 3D animation. I have also included in the picture gallery this week some shots of Fairtrade activities last week. Year 5 have also been getting a taste for Victorian workhouses especially gruel! They told me it was delicious but I am not so sure!

Mrs Armstrong in Reception has been telling me about the super writing with finger spaces that Ava, Lily and Caitlin have been doing independently. What superstars you all are!

Well done to Tyler, Charlie, Stella, Nikelesh, Gwen and Jasmine, in Year 1, for consistently scoring top marks in their spelling test every week. You amaze me. Mrs Robson and Mrs Williamson were also very impressed with Elsa, Nikelesh, Niamh, Tasawar, Jasmine, Stella, Dilhan and George as they have now mastered joined up writing. I am so proud of how well you are doing. What an inspiration to the rest of the class! Mrs Knowles wanted me to know about the excellent progress in swimming that Dex, Dean, Evie, Adam, Himshu and Duulgun have made. Fantastic news! Keep up the good work! Mrs Dunn and Mrs Robertson in Year 3 have noticed the huge effort Robert and Charlie have made with their mental maths and are making super progress. They were also amazed at the brilliant coding that Kyra has done in her computer work. Brilliant! Miss Jones has selected Honey-Summer and Alex as the sports people of the week. I am very proud of you all. Ms Taylor in Year 5 is delighted with the increased confidence Jamie is showing with her maths and with Lina who is now contributing more to lessons. She has a special mention for Connor as he has been a pleasure to have in class and is really challenging himself to do his very best. What more could anyone ask? Keep up the great work. In Year 5 Ms Gorsky, mentioned to me the great work that Lucy Gre is doing in English. Most impressive! She also mentioned the fantastic progress Lucy H has made with her maths. This is brilliant news both of you. You both make me very proud. Mrs Andrews was delighted with the high standard Lauren and Jenny have achieved in their recent assessments. She also knocked out by the fabulous effort Neil and Summer put into their street dance session! Amazing efforts all round Year 6.

This week top attending class this week are Reception who gain 5 minutes extra playtime.

We wish our Year 5 and our Year 6 steel pan bands every success this weekend as they take part in the Tynedale Festival where we have an enviable reputation to maintain. So no pressure there! I know that they will do their very best and I am so looking forward to hearing both bands show the judges how brilliant they are.

I look forward to next week and sharing with you the achievements of our amazing children. I am especially looking forward to seeing many of you at our parent’s evenings. Enjoy your week!
