ACTIVE TRAVEL & SCHOOL STREETS
School Streets schemes will be trialled at up to eight primary schools across the city, Under the scheme, streets outside the school gates will be closed to traffic during the morning drop off and afternoon pick up times in order to create a safer and healthier environment for pupils and their families. As well as enabling children to be more active by walking, scooting or cycling to school, the scheme is also expected to benefit neighbouring residents by reducing levels of parking and congestion.
UNDERSTANDING OUR ISSUES
We have been working closely with Sustrans and the Local Authority to share the main safety and environmental issues facing our children in school.
- Dangerous pavement parking
- No barriers in front of school gates and poor markings on road
- Cars blocking access
- Idling cars causing pollution outside the school playground
- Busy streets
- Unsafe roads and access for cyclists, scooters and skaters
- Air pollution
- Litter
School Streets commenced on the 16th January 2023
