Autism awareness

9th February 2017
Anne Simpson from Autism Dimensions has been raising awareness in the KS2 classes this morning about Autism Spectrum Disorder.
As a school, we have been working more closely with Anne since September to develop a whole school approach to supporting children with Autism. Developing awareness, understanding and provision is a long term aim of the school and we are fortunate to have the support and expertise of Anne in times where provision for children with Special Educational Needs is being cut.
Everyday, our brains interpret the things we see, hear, taste, touch and experience. But when someone's brain has trouble understanding these things, it can make it hard to talk, listen, understand, play and learn.
This morning we have asked the children about what our next steps could be and having more opportunities to learn about Autism was a very popular response. Treating others as you want to be treated remains one of our core values at Chilli Road and if we maintain this idea then relationships and communications will flourish.
Please take a look at our SEND offer on this website if you have concerns about your child or would like more information.
