End of Week 5

7th October 2016

This week has really emphasised how broad and balanced the curriculum is at Chillingham Road. We were very luck to host the mighty presence of Chris Bostock, storyteller extraordinaire, who inspired our Early Years and Year 1 children with the Starlight story. Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Morgan have subsequently  planned a range of activities for the Reception children around this beautiful story. Year 2 enjoyed a marvellous day at the Grace Darling Museum in Bamburgh and learnt about the incredible sea rescue of 1838. It was great to see the Year 2 class  developing freeze-frames in class this morning in order to support their writing related to the thoughts and feelings of all the people involved.

We’ve had Walk Smart in school this week as well as Year 6 taking part in the Bikeability scheme. Thursday gave classes the opportunity to celebrate National Poetry Day and Ms Gorsky seized this opportunity with Year 4 as they shared their favorite poems in front of an audience.

As a school, we will remain committed to offering rich learning opportunities as well as continuing to develop our curriculum in collaboration with our young people.
