Jack Common Talk

On Wednesday 23rd Oct, Heaton History Group presented Freedom of the Streets: life & work of Heaton born writer Jack Common  by Keith Armstrong with music from Kiddar's Luck.

Jack Common, a contemporary and friend of George Orwell, was a former pupil at Chillingham Road school. He wrote about his life in the streets and the school in the early 1900s.

Over 100 people attended this talk including members of Jack Common's family and former Chillingham Road pupils, many of whom left us memories and stories to use in our anniversary project.
