Thanks to all of our children and families who shared in our Remembrance Reflection this morning. Due to the fact our school has such a rich history and houses the parochial plaque, which commemorates the lives of 66 boys who attended Chilli Road and died in the Great War, it is essential we remember and reflect together.
Many of these former pupils lived near to the school within the warren of Heaton streets. Today, our children produced messages of hope in response to the theme of Katie Watson’s reflection. It was very moving to hear Katie’s account of her service in Bosnia and the memories she shared with us about the children of Vitez.
Katie presented school with a Poppy Peace Bomb and has asked the gardening club to cast its seeds and watch and hope for the colour to arrive. Thank you for sharing with us today Katie. If you would like to read Katie's reflection, I've attached it to download.
In the late 80’s, therapist Barry Mason developed the very salient idea of Safe Uncertainty. Reflecting upon the world news this week and when discussing the issues around war with our children, it is even clearer that we must work harder as a community to dissolve barriers of negativity and anxiety and commit whole-heartedly to become a power for good.
